Trump trial begins in porn star bribery case
The trial of Donald Trump in the case of bribing former porn star Stormy Daniels is going to begin in New York court. Trump is facing trial on Monday (April 15). The British media reported the news.
This is the first time former US President Donald Trump will be tried in a criminal case. He was the first US president to face trial.
If convicted, Trump could face a maximum of four years in prison. But he can also be fined to avoid imprisonment.
Allegations against Trump that the former porn star was paid large sums of money before the 2016 presidential election to keep her mouth shut about her relationship with him. Trump's ex-lawyer Michael Cohen claimed to have bribed Daniels with about 130,000 dollars to keep his mouth shut.
The trial will begin Monday with jury selection. It is expected to last six to eight weeks.
A total of 34 charges have been brought against Trump. He, however, denied all the allegations. Trump's trial is seen as unprecedented ahead of the presumptive Republican nominee ahead of November's presidential election.
