Protest police in uniform without pants
A shortage of uniforms has sparked frustration among police officers in Germany's Bavaria. In a video released by the German police union, police officers walk around in uniform without pants expressing their frustration.
Frustrated policemen who have been waiting as the stock of uniforms has been empty for a long time have chosen this route to draw the attention of the authorities for their demands. The state chapter of the police union posted the video on YouTube and Instagram.
It can be seen in the video, sitting in the police car, two police officers ask each other how long they will have to wait? The answer is four, or six months...so when they get out of the BMW car, they are wearing uniforms without pants.
Then the chairman of that union Jürgen Kohlein highlighted the main problem. He said, "You may think this is a bad April Fool's joke. But actually, there is nothing to laugh about. The appalling lack of uniforms is actually a disservice to police officers.''
He said, "Policemen in Bavaria are being forced to live half-naked, even without trousers. There is a shortage of 21 items of uniform. For example caps, jackets, and pants... after many months of waiting, we don't know if they will be available at all.''
The police union has urged the state home ministry to resolve the issue as soon as possible. They claim that they will have to pay for this if additional expenses are incurred. They say there has been a shortage of good uniforms since 2020, which has never been talked about. But now getting a uniform has become a big problem.
A Home Ministry spokesperson said on Wednesday that they are aware of the problem. He said that this problem has arisen due to disruption in the supply sector. The officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs said that they will fulfill all the responsibilities of delivering them themselves from now on.
Representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs are blaming the coronavirus pandemic and the war in Ukraine for this problem. However, they claim that by 2030 new logistics centers will be built in Bavaria. However, the Ministry of Home Affairs has urged the police to continue their duties regardless of the problems. Besides, they are saying that they can perform their duty by wearing alternative clothes for the time being without the minor items of uniform which are not in stock.
However, Germany's union chairman Jürgen still does not see any hope. According to him, it is still uncertain. Will the crisis actually be resolved or will the situation worsen? What will be the attitude of new recruits when they get civilian clothes instead of uniforms after training?
