Largest operation by Israeli forces in the West Bank
Israeli forces have
carried out the largest operation this year in the occupied West Bank. A
16-year-old Palestinian youth was killed in this operation. This incident happened
on Monday (March 4). According to Palestinian sources, the British news agency
Reuters reported this news.
The operation was
carried out overnight in the Palestinian Authority capital of Ramallah.
Witnesses in Ramallah
said Israeli forces entered the city with a fleet of dozens of military
vehicles. The city is the headquarters of the Palestinian Authority led by
President Mahmoud Abbas.
The Palestinian
Ministry of Health said 16-year-old Mustafa Abu Shalbak was shot dead by
Israeli forces during an operation in the Amri refugee camp.
Palestinian news agency
Wafa said the clashes began when Israeli forces attacked the camp. At that
time, 'Palestinian youths were fired directly at.' Abu Shalbak was injured by
being shot in the neck and chest.
Reuters reported that
there was no immediate response to a request for comment from the Israeli
military.
Witnesses also reported
that Israeli forces destroyed a main road in the West Bank city of Tulkarm
during the operation.
Israeli forces detained
at least 55 Palestinians in overnight raids in the West Bank, according to the
Palestinian Prisoners Club.
With the war in Gaza,
violence is also escalating across the West Bank. At least 400 Palestinians
have been killed in clashes with Israeli forces and settlers. Since occupying
the area in 1967, Israel has been conducting regular operations in the
Palestinian areas there.
